Principal’s Message

Dear Students, Parents, Guardians and Friends,

No one could have predicted what a different and challenging world we would be living in now. Lockdowns, isolation, social distancing, sanitising and face masks, remote learning and working from home are now commonplace in this time of COVID-19. However, there is one thing that remains unchanged and that is our school’s focus on the safety and well-being of our school community. By following guidelines from State and Federal Governments, we have implemented numerous measures which we believe will keep our students, staff and families safe.

Remote Learning

With the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic occurring at the end of term one, our traditional school system underwent an unprecedented change with the introduction of remote learning. It was a challenging start to term two, but as the weeks progressed and we settled into the remote learning routine, I was happy to see that it was quite a success. In fact, we received a great deal of positive feedback from parents in regards to the Zoom sessions and MyED online. We did our best to assist families who had a shortage of devices and loaned out the school iPads for those who required them.

Face to Face Learning

As the number of COVID-19 cases reduced to acceptable levels throughout May, the State Government announced the return to face-to-face learning in two stages. Students in lower primary levels (foundation – year two) returned to on-site learning on May 26th, and two weeks later, the rest of the school joined us on June 9th. I am pleased to say the return to face-to-face learning was smooth and safely managed by school staff, students and parents alike. We implemented new protocols to adhere to the guidelines of social distancing and hygiene practices.

New Hygiene and Social Distancing Protocols

We have increased the frequency of our cleaning schedule to ensure that surfaces are cleaned and sanitised multiple times during school hours, as well as a deep-clean taking place after hours each day. To uphold social distancing guidelines, we have limited the number of people permitted in the school reception to a maximum of six. We conduct temperature checks on visitors and contractors as they arrive at the school. Our cafeteria access is also restricted to the secondary students on a rotational basis and primary students are required to submit lunch orders. There are also designated entry and exit points across the school grounds. While it may seem cumbersome, we appreciate your understanding and compliance in this matter as we make arrangements to uphold the continued safety of the school community.

Sickness Policy

A reminder to all parents and guardians that if your child/children are sick, they should remain at home until they are well again. With that in mind, when a student becomes unwell at school their parents will be contacted immediately and children will need to be promptly collected. It is important to note that a medical certificate is required for instances where your child has missed assessments.

Thank You

Finally, I would like to convey my deepest appreciation to all parents and family members who were exceptional in assisting their child/children during remote learning, and those who have continued to provide unwavering support to our school during these difficult times.

Happy holidays and stay safe.
